Artist David Stansfield lives and works from his studio just outside the pretty Cornish village of St Newlyn East.
He is married with four children and as a committed Christian has a passion for art through the creative gifts he has been given. He studied at Blackburn College of Art and Design and has worked for many years as a Commercial Artist and Illustrator, illustrating children’s books and greetings cards for top publishers such as Hallmark.
David’s work has also been exhibited in New York and sold internationally.
After moving to Cornwall several years ago David was totally blown away and inspired by the awesome power and beauty of God’s creation.
The light and scenery of the Atlantic coast and natural beauty of the Cornish countryside, the rugged North Cornwall coastline, exposure to it’s wild and sometimes destructive power, gnarly fishing ports and pretty villages all have an influence on David’s work. The corrosive and unpredictable nature and it’s effects on the things created by man is reflected in many of David’s pieces.
David now primarily paints in acrylics and works on materials reclaimed from the ocean, beaches and surrounding coast and countryside of Cornwall. He feels that this gives each piece a totally unique edge with a physical connection to the county of Cornwall and ensures that no two are ever the same.
David exhibits his work regularly and his work is sold through some of Cornwall’s premier galleries such as the City of Truro’s Lander Gallery.
This website is intended to give a glimpse and flavour of David’s work. Pieces can be personalised (ie naming of boats) and commissions are always welcome. The pieces are very robust and can be shipped easily if required.
